A presidency source has informed Naijiant.com that the rally in London yesterday, against the slaughter of Nigerians in various parts of the country by Fulani herdsmen and government failure to deal with the atrocities, has caused severe embarrassment to the Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The source claimed that the presidency was “touched” by the protests in the UK capital and predicted that it has forced their hand to take action against the herdsmen. He said: “Watch out their moves in the next hours/days”.
Fulani herdsmen have reportedly killed hundreds of people in their clashes with farming communities in this year alone and are said to have killed more Nigerians in recent times than Boko Haram terrorists. Buhari has largely ignored the issue and was only forced to comment after the herdsmen killed up to 300 people in Agatu Local Government Area in Benue State in February and allegedly killed 50 people more recently in Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani in Enugu State.

Many Nigerians, including Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State and Nobel Literature Laureate Wole Soyinka, have been highly critical of the president’s handling of the matter.
It is likely that his administration would be concerned if countries like the UK started to question why Buhari has not been treating the problem with the seriousness it deserves.
