The televised Anambra State governorship (s)election debate last night has attracted significant social media attention. But rather than concentrate on who won between the aspirants and what it would mean on voting day 18 November, two prominent spin-doctors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chose to drag a non-participant in the debate, President Muhammadu Buhari, into the action.
Shortly after the debate, Reno Omokri, a former special assistant to then President Goodluck Jonathan posted this on Facebook.
Omokri wrote: “I see people asking who won #AnambraDebate. Some say Chidoka won, others say it was Obiano. Even others claim Nwoye won. We are asking the wrong question. The right question is this: Can Buhari even survive a debate with any of those intelligent guys contesting to be Anambra Governor?”
Not to be outdone, Lere Olayinka, spokesman for Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose tweeted:

Both men conveniently forgot that in 2011, Buhari, (O’Level certificate and all) showed up for a presidential debate against Nuhu Ribadu, Ibrahim Shekarau. No doubt, Buhari’s performance was a train wreck.
Watch it below:
What was interesting or “the right question” about the 2011 debate was that President Jonathan of the PDP, with his PhD certificate, ducked out of the debate.
Four years later, Buhari, perhaps on the advice of PR consultants hired from the US, decided he couldn’t risk taking part in another debate. But following Jonathan’s dodge in 2011, PDP spin-meisters should be the last to mock Buhari about a debate.
