Wilfred Ndidi praised for his ‘wonderful gesture’ to travelling fan

Wilfred Ndidi picked out 18-year-old celebrating his birthday to give him his shirt

Leicester City star Wilfred Ndidi has been praised after seeking out a fan after the Southampton game and giving him his No.25 shirt.

Lennon Veasey had tweeted the midfielder before the game saying it was his 18th birthday this week and asked the Nigerian for his shirt.

Ndidi had tweeted Lennon, who is named after the former City star Neil, back and said he would give him the shirt after the midweek game

Lennon and his father, David, made their way to the front of the St Mary’s Stadium stand after the 4-1 victory hoping that Ndidi would pick them out.

The young star came over to the travelling fans celebrating the victory and, after scouring the faces in the stand, recognised Lennon from his Twitter picture.

Dad David said: “It was a wonderful gesture from Ndidi. What a great man he is. It is an amazing gesture and to go to the effort he did for Lennon is wonderful.

“Footballers can come in for a lot of stick over their attitude these days, but Ndidi’s efforts to recognise him and give him his shirt is exceptional.

“He deserves an awful lot of credit and we can’t thank him enough”, said David, who now lives in Torquay after moving there from Leicester.
