Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen’s explosive introduction to the French top tier this season has been confirmed as he was voted Player of the Month in September.
Osimhen faced competition from Islam Slimani of Monaco and Nantes’ Nicolas Pallois. The Nigerian received 45% of the votes, with Slimani at second with 37% and Pallois polling 18%.
The 20 year old signed for Lille in August, scored twice in five matches in September and also had five assists to win the award from the players’ union. He now has eight goals in 11 games for Lille and is current top scorer in Ligue 1.
Osimhen thanked those that voted for him via Twitter:
He scored in his first full debut for Nigeria against Ukraine in September, was also impressive against Brazil last Sunday, and on current form is undisputed as his country’s first choice striker.
