Former Nigeria international Victor Obinna faces uncertainty at his Bundesliga club Darmstadt, as the coach seems to think he is surplus to requirements.
29 year old Obinna arrived at Darmstadt from then second division Duisburg last summer on a year’s contract. However, given the latest comments from new coach, Torsten Frings, who took over in December, the Nigerian’s days at Darmstadt may be numbered. Frings told Kicker that: “We have told him to look for a new club and we will assist him.”
Obinna’s agent, Giuseppe Spitali also told Kicker that he aims to discuss with the club, after they returned from their winter camp last Friday.
Obinna’s problem is that his favourite position in attacking midfield is occupied either by Laszlo Kleinheisler or Jan Rosenthal. Furthermore, the coach that signed Obinna, Norbert Meier is no longer at the club.
The much-travelled Obinna, who has also played for Chievo, Inter Milan, Malaga, West Ham and Lokomotiv Moscow, has only seen 38 minutes of action at Darmstadt.
He will be hoping to see some movement in the winter transfer window, which ends on 31 January.
