Sports minister Solomon Dalung, he of the ridiculous military fatigues and red beret, led the Nigerian delegation to the African Nations Championship in Rwanda.
The championship is essentially for national “B” teams made of up of players that play in Africa’s domestic leagues.
At a time in which President Muhammadu Buhari is saying the country needs to tighten its belt due to falling oil prices, it is a waste of resources sending a minister to a “B” grade contest at public expense.
His flight, accommodation and expense allowance would have been better spent if invested in many other sports crying out for funding in Nigeria.
We already have NFF officials in the delegation. That was more than enough. Buhari came into power on a mantra of “change”. A good place to start would be putting an end to expensive and unnecessary jamborees for officials.
