Manchester United’s former defender Rio Ferdinand is in Lagos over the weekend and he decided to judge the mood of the club’s fans in the city over the transfer deadline day signing of Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo.
It was a case of mixed reactions.
Despite the misgivings of some, coach Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is confident that the Nigerian will make a difference as his team bids for a top four place in the Premier League. Solksjaer told MUTV: “We get an experienced goalscorer, top scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations last season. He’s a man with a big smile, a great personality and a big Manchester United fan. He’s going to savour this, enjoy this and give absolutely everything for us.”
This tweet confirms Ighalo has always been a fan of the club.
Ighalo grew up in Ajegunle, one of the slums that dot across the megacity of Lagos.
