Mikel Obi: It’s do or die against Argentina

23 June 2018

Nigeria’s Super Eagles players spoke during the post-match interviews following their 2-0 victory against Iceland in yesterday’s World Cup Group D clash in Volgograd.  They covered the formation that beat Iceland, the prospects of facing Lionel Messi and Argentina in the group’s final game on Tuesday and other issues.

Watch the interviews:

Skipper Mikel Obi said it was going to be “do or die” against Argentina, who have beaten Nigeria in all their four previous encounters at the World Cup.  The other players that spoke were striker Odion Ighalo, defenders William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo, goalie Francis Uzoho, striker Kelechi Iheanacho and fullback Tyrone Ebuehi.

Omerua admitted they need to “work harder” to stop Argentina.  Ighalo said the change of formation against Iceland with two strikers – Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa – made it possible for Nigeria score goals.  Against Croatia in the first match, Ighalo said he was “isolated” upfront.  Nigeria also played with three at the back against Iceland with Omeruo flanked at each side by Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun.  Keeper Uzoho said the performance was a lot better than the first match.
