Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho grabbed Manchester City’s second goal in yesterday’s 3-0 away win at Norwich in the FA Cup.
The goal came from an assist by the brilliant Sergio Aguero in the 31st minute, with the Nigerian guiding the ball into the net with his weaker right foot.
City’s other goals came from Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne.
Watch the highlights:
With Aguero regularly struggling with injury and City’s other striker Wilfred Bony out of sorts, frustrated City fans have called for Iheanacho to get an extended run in the side beyond the five games and three starts he has had in this debut season. He has scored five goals – an incredible return for someone still learning his trade.
When asked by City’s website whether he is banging on manager Manuel Pellegrini’s door demanding more games, Iheanacho replied: “Not really because as a young player you have to work hard in every training session and if you are given the chance to play you have to show the manager that you deserve to be in. I think nothing is enough in football. I will keep working hard, I will keep giving my best every day and in every game. Every day I will keep learning from the professionals in my team.”
Iheanacho is surely learning from one of the best by playing and training alongside Aguero. The little Argentine’s first goal against Norwich would not have been out of place in his countryman Diego Maradona’s highlight reel.
