Watfords’s Nigerian international striker Odion Ighalo has won the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for December.
Ighalo scored five goals in five games in that month and has 13 this season.
He said: “It was a great month, but not just me, for the team as well because we worked hard and we got as many points as we could.
“It was very good for us to be in mid-table and we want to keep that going, pushing ourselves game by game and see how far we can go.
“I knew the step up from the Championship to the Premier League was going to be difficult because the defenders are more experienced and big teams always defend with honour.
“So I put a lot of work in and that has been paying off. I want to keep going, keep learning and working hard and help my teammates to win games.”
His manager Quique Sanchez Flores also won Manager of the Month. Ighalo is the third Nigerian to win the award behind Peter Odemwingie and Jay-Jay Okocha.
