Odion Ighalo set Watford on their way to Wembley for the FA Cup semi-final with a superbly-taken first goal in their 2-1 victory away to Arsenal this afternoon.
Ighalo’s sharp turn and finish came five minutes into the second half from a knockdown from his skipper and strike partner Troy Deeney. It was the Nigerian hitman’s first start in the FA Cup this season.
Watch the highlights:
Midfielder Adlene Guedioura hit a thunderbolt into the top right corner of David Ospina’s goal to make it 2-0 after 63 minutes, from another assist from Deeney.
Arsenal, fought hard to come back, with Ighalo’s fellow Nigerian international Alex Iwobi coming on in the 63rd minute. The young gunner hit the woodwork with a low strike in the dying minutes after team-mate Danny Welbeck had pulled a goal back for Arsenal. It was too little too late for the Gunners as Ighalo and Watford looked forward to Monday’s semi-final draw.
