Bola Tinubu, aka Bobo Chicago, Asiwaju, Jagaban, etc, the former governor of Lagos State, and the force behind Buhahari’s run for the presidency, was once described by anti corruption czar Nuhu Ribadu as someone whose criminal case was of “international dimension”.
Ribadu went on to claim that “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would not escape justice but would be made to face the full wrath of the law.”
That was about eight years ago.
Tinubu has continued to escape justice.
In 2011 when Ribadu was running for president under Tinubu’s ACN, Tinubu cut a deal with the ruling PDP to betray his own presidential candidate and have his supporters vote for the PDP candidate President Goodluck Jonathan. In return for Tinubu’s support in the states he held sway, he was going to avoid prosecution for the crimes that have been catalogued in this video:
The word “on ground” is that Tinubu is still trying to avoid prosectution and this is his motivation for backing Buhahari.
Contrary to popular belief, Tinubu is looting enough from Lagos State not to be bothered about getting his snout in the federal trough.
But only presidential protection can prevent him from spending the rest of his days as a high value prisoner. So a Buhahahari win is a matter of liberty for Tinubu. And he is deploying his considerable resources to achieve that goal. This is despite claiming in 2003 according to Wikileaks cables that Buhahari was a man “whose ethnocentrism would jeopardize Nigeria’s national unity. Buhari and his ilk are agents of destabilization who would be far worse than Obasanjo.”
Nigeria’s unity and stability do not matter as much now in 2015 to Bobo Chicago as his freedom from prosecution.
