Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has reportedly declared that state employees can start their weekends on Thursdays as there is no point doing a full week since he has no money to pay them.
A civil service source in Benue State told Naijiant.com that four-day weeks are now the norm and that it is “deranged” of the governor to think this was a solution to owing public sector workers up to six months pay.
Ortom was (s)elected governor in April last year under the All Progressives Congress (APC) “change” platform. the only “change” so far for the people of his state is in the working week.
The governor like “change” a lot too, as he used to belong to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), serving as Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment. He is apparently struggling to attract enough investment in his state to pay salaries.
