Vice President Yemi Osinbajo served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. His boss as governor was Bola Tinubu.
Before becoming governor Tinubu aka Bobo Chicago was linked by the FBI as a “bag man” for a heroin-trafficking network in Chicago led by Adegboyega Mueez Akande between 1988 and 1993.
As governor, Tinubu proceeded to loot the state dry as he operated like it was his personal property. This looting took many forms including converting previously state-owned land and property into Tinubu’s personal possessions, resulting in the two-term governor becoming the landlord with the largest property portfolio in Lagos State.
Acres of land including over 2 kilometres of Atlantic beachfront, the Ajah junction on Lekki Road, Parkview Ikoyi Estate, the Ilubinrin housing estate and many other prime land in the state were appropriated by the governor using front companies and cronies.
A source has informed Naijiant.com that the “main facilitator” for Tinubu’s theft was his Attorney-General Osinbajo. The latter did all the “legal work” necessary to transfer ownership of these properties from the Lagos State government to Tinubu, while attempting to cover the tracks leading the misappropriation to his boss. Rather than carry out his role as the state’s legal adviser, Osinbajo served instead as Tinubu’s “illegal adviser”.
Tinubu is said to have become very close to Osinbajo, a relationship based on fraud that continued when the governor finished his two terms in office in 2007. When Muhammadu Buhari emerged as flagbearer in the presidential (s)election for Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC), the former governor did not hesitate to nominate Osinbajo as the Number Two on the ticket.
This was meant to be Tinubu’s ticket, according to another source, to “do to Nigeria what he did to Lagos State”. It didn’t quite work out that way because Mamman Daura, Buhari’s nephew, led another criminally-minded group of people to seize control of the presidency and the juicy spoils of office.
Tinubu may still have the last laugh if Buhari’s absenteeism in London becomes permanent on grounds of incapacity.
The irony was that the Buhari/Osinbajo ticket ran on an anti-corruption platform. Nothing could be further from the truth, considering the scale of the fraud Tinubu perpetrated in Lagos State with the help of Osinbajo.
