Imo State governor Rochas Okorocha is struggling to keep his wife Nneoma on side.
She practically lives in Abuja and only visits the state capital Owerri “once in a while”.
She is said to be against her husband’s politricks and policies.
Their problems seem to have blown up when Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha of the PDP, started to run for Imo governor against Okorocha. Ihedioha is a family friend of the Okorochas. Before Okorocha became governor, Ihedioha had used his clout as Deputy Speaker to get Okorocha’s wife a job as one of the commissioners at the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
Mrs Okorocha asked her husband to remember what Ihedioha had done for them and not turn their contest for the governorship into a bitter struggle. Okorocha ignored her and attacked his opponent vigorously.
She is also said to be embarrassed by her husband’s tendency to “talk rubbish in public”. Okorocha allegedly boasted at a rally that he can never be poor again. He also dismissed his former party APGA (he became governor under their platform) as a “cultural organisation” that should “concentrate on masquerades” during festivals, after he left them for the APC.
His wife was not pleased about this and had pleaded with him to remain with APGA, as it was the platform that allowed him to become governor. She is also said to be strongly against the APC leader Muhammadu Buhahari.
Okorocha was with PDP before he left for APGA and then APC.
