The husband of the former petroleum minister Diezani Madueke, according to a source, had a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari about how his wife was being treated by the new administration.
Mrs Madueke has, since Buhari came into office, become the poster girl for the corruption of the previous administration of Goodluck Jonathan. And the media has been fed with information, allegedly by Buhari’s colleagues in the All Progressives Congress (APC), detailing Madueke’s fraud to the tune of billions of dollars.
Her husband, Allison, a retired admiral and former Chief of Naval Staff, who was a military governor under Buhari’s regime, is said to have had a meeting with the president. He asked the president why he was “shaming” his wife. He said the Buhari administration was carrying on like she was the only one who was corrupt.
The retired admiral told Buhari that they were both retired generals and in government and they each knew “what was going on”. The suggestion was that Madueke meant that he and Buhari were both corrupt. He told Buhari that he could “expose everybody”, then asked him to leave his wife alone and stormed out.
Buhari tried to calm Madueke down, asking him to wait for them to discuss the issue, but didn’t succeed.
Interestingly, not much has been seen in the media about Diezani Madueke’s corruption in recent times.
