The son of governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State and the All Progressives Congress, who promised “change” during the (s)election campaign, was arrested yesterday by Customs officials at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos as he tried to fly to the UAE with $918,000 in cash.
Our source, who works at the airport, said Aregbesola junior immediately rang his father, who dashed to the airport and started bribing Customs officials to release his son. It is not yet clear whether the governor has been successful in securing the son’s release.
Public sector workers have been owed five months salaries in Osun State, while the governor’s son managed to have such large amounts of “change” to play with.
Much of the Nigerian media has ignored this story, possibly out of loyalty to the APC and one source claimed that the governor has leaned on editors to suppress the story.
