The governor of Kaduna State Nasir el-Rufai has been chosen by President Muhammadu Buhari to replace him as the All Progressives Congress candidate in the presidential (s)election in 2019.
Buhahari has indicated that, at 72, he will only rule for one term. El-Rufai has emerged as the power behind throne and is seen as the unofficial vice president or prime minister. The Kaduna State governor and former federal capital territory minister is said to be behind most decisions made by the president.
El-Rufai’s presidential ambitions are surely going to put him on collision course with other APC heavyweights with their eyes on the big prize. They include former vice president Abubakar Atiku and Senate president Bukola Saraki.
