Yesterday we reported information from our source in Owerri that governor Rochas Okorocha was trying to get enough votes in some local government areas (LGAs) cancelled so he could be declared the “winner” of the (s)election in Imo State.
That report was confirmed this morning when INEC declared the (s)election in Imo as “inconclusive” because the margin of Okorocha’s “win” over PDP challenger Emeka Ihedioha was 79,529 and the cancelled votes were 144,715.
There will now be a rerun in 23 LGAs in the state, possibly in two weeks’ time.
Our source “on ground” has provided further information about Okorocha’s desperation to cling on to power. He allegedly paid INEC officials to present different results sheets from the ones that were approved by all party agents and INEC officials at polling units.
