The word out of Enugu, as outgoing two-term governor Sullivan Chime plans for life as an ordinary citizen, is that he is not as “rich” as he thought he was!
Chime had been allegedly using his former chief of staff Ifeoma Nwobodo to loot state funds. But Nwobodo has put most of the stolen money in her name and is now refusing to hand it over to the governor.
This led to a last ditch “insurance” attempt by the governor to go for some last minute looting. He asked the House of Assembly to approve an 11bn naira (about $55.2m) loan for “the payment of contractors”. This was rejected by some members and led to parliamentarians opposed to the loan trying to commence impeachment proceedings against the governor.
