Jega refuses to go quietly

Attahiru Jega, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) boss, is resisting attempts by the presidency to remove him.

As we reported over the weekend, plans have been hatched to remove Jega this week.  He is due to retire in June and the plot was to send him on leave on the 1st of March and replace him with Nazim Mimiko, who is expected to be more willing to do the bidding of the ruling party in ensuring President Jonathan is re-elected.

But Jega has refused to go quietly and will kick up a stink if/when he is shunted aside.
