Former President Goodluck Jonathan and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been described as “reckless” with the amounts of money they lavished on Nollywood stars.
This revelation was made to Naijiant.com by a veteran Nollywood producer and actor, who spoke about how then President Jonathan and then Senate President David Mark blew millions of naira on Nollywood stars that they were having affairs with.
Jonathan allegedly bought a 350m naira ($1.1m) property in Parkview Estate Ikoyi, Lagos, for Nollywood’s biggest female star Genevieve Nnaji. According to Wikipedia: “Ikoyi has some of the most opulent residential facilities in Nigeria, and is thought to have the most expensive real estate on the entire African continent, with the average new apartment selling for US$1 million. However, due to the limited available land, many of these are vertical apartment buildings”.
Not to be outdone, then Senate President David Mark bought four SUVs and a shopping plaza in Abuja for his love interest Chika Ike, a Nollywood beauty.
Mark also bought Rita Dominic, another Nollywood siren, a 250m naira ($795,000) property in Parkview Estate.
The then President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima, who has also starred in several Nollywood movies, was handed over 1bn naira ($3.1m) by Jonathan to help mobilise Nollywood’s major players in support of the PDP in last year’s (s)election.
Fiberisima was sentenced to jail for manslaughter due to reckless driving in March, but she is on bail pending determination of her appeal at the Supreme Court.
