Our source in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has revealed that the entire state is on “lockdown” as a strike of state government workers led by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) went into its third day.
Bank staff were said to have also joined in the strike.
Rather than stay in Owerri and try to resolve the issue, governor Rochas Okorocha chaired an All Progressives Congress (APC) governors meeting in Abuja. He also threatened to sack all state workers that did not report for work on Monday.
Our source claimed that the hopes of state employees to be paid by with the “bailout” money that was said to be made available by the federal government for the payment of salaries, has been “seized” by Zenith Bank. The bank is said to be owed billions of naira in loans taken out by the Okorocha administration for allegedly fictitious projects.
