Senator Hope Uzodinma, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Imo West Senatorial District in Imo State, flew out of Nigeria this evening for London. He will be addressing a “town hall meeting” of indigenes of Imo State’s Orlu zone living in London at the Marriott Hotel in Maida Vale, London tomorrow evening.
A source close to the senator revealed to Naijiant that Uzodinma will be using the meeting to “sound out his people in London” about his quest to replace Rochas Okorocha as governor in 2019.
Incumbent Okorocha, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who would have served two terms in office by then, is plotting to install his son-in-law and current Chief of Staff Uche Nwosu as his replacement.
Others eyeing the governorship in 2019 include the defeated PDP candidate in last year’s (s)election and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Emeka Ihedioha, and perennial carpet-crosser and former Senator Ifeanyi Ararume, who is currently in the APC – subject to mood swings and realignment of interests.
Neither Hope Uzodinma nor any of these other candidates should give anyone in Imo State hope that things would get better after eight years of Okorocha’s misrule.
