A source has revealed that former president Goodluck Jonathan is in favour of some of the moves by the current president Muhammadu Buhari to investigate the misappropriation of public funds under the Jonathan administration.
Jonathan is pleased because some of the corrupt acts involved some of his allies taking the money and not delivering in terms of votes during the presidential (s)election.
In April we reported that a source close to then National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki revealed how $5m was handed over in Dubai to the electoral commission’s boss in Jigawa State to ensure that Jonathan won in the state. The commissioner took the money and failed to deliver as Buhari won in the state by an overwhelming margin.
Dasuki is now being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraudulently diverting funds meant to fight Boko Haram for other purposes. He allegedly shifted 2.1bn naira ($10.5m) to founder of Daar Communications PLC, owners of Raypower and AIT broadcast stations, Raymond Dokpesi, who is also being prosecuted.
Another source informed us that Olisa Metuh, the Publicity Secretary for Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), also received significant amounts for a “social media” campaign for the former president. The source said Metuh bought property in Dubai with the money.
