Former senator Ifeanyi Ararume of Imo North constituency in Imo State, who at various times was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ran for governor under the Action Congress of Nigeria, returned to the PDP and sought the PDP nomination for the governor in the last (s)election, only to be spurned in favour of Emeka Ihedioha, and has now switched to the All Progressives Congress (APC), also owns Exclusive Stores in Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja.
The supermarket is reportedly one of the biggest and best in the city, and Ararume is said to be building another one of similar stature in Owerri.
He recently claimed that “PDP is finished” in Imo State.
The former senator has also “finished” a small businessman. Ararume asked the businessman to supply wine from Italy for his supermarket and the bill was 4m naira (about $20,000). The transaction was done two years ago and since then the businessman has been trying to get his money.
He begged friends of the former senator to intervene on his behalf and after several months of trying, Ararume then wrote the man a cheque for 1.4m naira about six months ago, and told him “if I see you here again, I will deal with you”.
The man had to cut his losses and run. He can’t afford the costs of suing and is scared that, in Nigeria’s jungle justice system, the very wealthy Ararume, could have him locked up or worse, if he tried to take the case any further.
Incidentally, Ararume, when he was a senator, took bribes from then president Olusegun Obasanjo’s third term bid and voted against the bid. Since then, Obasanjo allegedly swore that Ararume would never win another (s)election as long as he (Obasanjo) was alive.
