The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are not pleased that President Muhammadu Buhari has nominated Geoffrey Jideofor Onyeama as the minister from Enugu State.
A source in Enugu has indicated that party bigwigs in the state are displeased because the president ignored them for Onyeama, who is not a member of the party and has lived abroad since the 1980s.
Onyeama worked for the World Intellectual Property Organisation, which is an agency of the United Nations, and has been based in Geneva and Brussels for decades.
While top APC officials in the state like Osita Okechukwu, Okey Ezea and Brigadier Joseph Okoloagu (Rtd) were jockeying to be the ministerial nominee for Enugu State, Onyeama was able to use his friendship with the president’s Chief of Staff Abba Kyari to make it to the ministerial list.
Onyeama is expected to be confirmed by the Senate at hearings on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.
