The younger brother of Sullivan Chime, the former governor of Enugu State is being held by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as investigations continue into the governor’s looting of the public purse in the state.
One petition against Chime claims he misappropriated about 12bn naira ($60m) and forged documents to cover up the theft.
His brother Jide, was the de facto deputy governor during Chime’s eight-year term and was known to admirers as “Deputy”, because he was like the second-in-command in the state. The younger Chime would have known where all the missing millions ended up. We are not sure if he is “singing” like a bird to the investigators.
The EFCC arrested Chime’s Chief of Staff Mrs Ifeoma Nwobodo in July. She was said to be have been used to set up bank accounts for the former governor.
