A source close to the outgoing governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has claimed that the president-elect, who has a lot of time for Amaechi, is determined and willing to support the court cases against the results of the governorship (s)elections in Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
Buhahari and Amaechi believe “there was no election” in Rivers State, even though the electoral commission called it for the PDP candidate Eze Nyesom Wike against Amaechi’s anointed candidate Dakuku Peterside of the APC.
The source claimed that Patience Jonathan, the wife of the president, spent days in Rivers State coordinating the rigging of the (s)election with police and army officers.
It is suspected that control of the oil producing states is of strategic importance for any hopes of a PDP revival nationally. Those states are among the richest in the land in terms of government revenue. Amaechi is said to have footed a large part of the bill for Buhahari’s campaign from Rivers State coffers.
