President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Abuja last night after a four-day visit to India.
The picture above shows the welcome home party for the president waiting for him to come out of the plane.
The man was only away for four days! In that picture there is the Inspector-General of the Police Solomon Arase, the governor of Imo State Rochas Okorocha, the vice president Yemi Osinbajo, the Chief Umbrella Holder, his assistant, and others.
Why does the president need all these officials to “welcome” him on his return? Why is it not enough for a handful of his personal staff and security to be there on his return?
This is purely a very expensive exercise in patented sycophancy. All these “dignitaries” would have been at the airport with their retinues of flunkies, battalions of security detail, fleets of cars and so on at a time everyone else is being told to tighten their belts because the country is broke.
What is a state governor doing “welcoming” a president on his return? Doesn’t he have a state to run? Hundreds of thousands of Imo State workers are still owed several months’ salaries. But standing in the rain at night waiting for the president to get off the plane is obviously more important to their governor.
