President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed former senator Babafemi Ojudu as special adviser on political matters.
Ojudu, who represented Ekiti Central from 2011 to 2015 stepped down before the last (s)election.
He is a protege and loyalist of Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State and All Progressive Congress (APC) chieftain.
Ojudu’s appointment indicates that despite suspicions that Tinubu was being marginalised by the Buhari regime, the man known as the “Lion of Bourdillion Close” may be roaring back in terms of influence.
Ojudu is a former journalist and very active on Twitter and Facebook. He is yet to comment on social media about his appointment. He is very loyal to Tinubu and strongly supports his political “godfather” on social media. Ojudu has also represented Tinubu at several occasions.
He has never said anything against Buhari in public and maintained party discipline even when there appeared to be a rift between the president and the former state governor.
Unlike many social media activists for the APC and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ojudu appears to be able to maintain friendships with many Nigerians of opposing political views. He is quite close with Seun Kuti, the singer, activist and son of Afro-beat legend Fela Kuti. Seun is a strident critic of the Buhari administration.
