No belt-tightening in Enugu State

At a time of dwindling revenues as a result of the drop in the oil price, the new Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has submitted 24 names to the state’s House of Assembly for approval as commissioners.

The list signed by the rotund governor, known to his supporters as “Gburugburu” was leaked to us and includes all manner of political jobbers including Fidel Ayogu, who ran for governor twice under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

It is not quite clear why the state needs 24 commissioners, but Ugwuanyi’s campaign group promised during the (s)election that he will create 10,000 jobs in six months. With the new commissioners, he has 9,976 more jobs to create before November.
