The crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over senior legislative positions in the National Assembly first degenerated into fights and then farce.
One lawmaker took the law into his own hand with the old five finger rude salute, known as “waka” in Nigeria. It was not clear whether the senator’s leadership skills resulted in other senators following his lead and bush-wakaing their colleagues.
But one female House of Representatives member decided to show Nigerians that “what a man can do a woman can do” by sticking her own waka in the face of another rep from a different faction.
You’ve got hand it to her for raising her hand for gender equality.
While there is handsome reward for Nigerian legislators as the highest paid in the world, their handiwork has been given the thumbs down by most Nigerians. The majority of Nigerians would surely put their hands up if you asked how many wanted the country to get rid of the National Assembly, with the members’ cack-handed and ham-fisted self interest and disregard for the welfare of their constituents.
That would surely come in very handy when it comes to saving Nigeria some money that could be handed over to more worthy causes.
