Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has been accused of buying two BMWs and a London flat for an alleged mistress by Nigerian website Sahara Reporters.
The allegation was made in a tweet from their account this afternoon.

Naijiant.com, keen to get further details on the story, contacted someone close to Ekweremadu to flesh it out, and it turns out that the “mistress” in the picture is the Senator’s niece. She lives in London and well known to our source. The source asked: “Why are people like this? Fake news!!”
We were a bit disappointed that there were no legs to this story, but still pressed the source: “OK, she is his niece, but did he buy her two Beemers?” The source responded: “Big lie!”.
This left us pondering the answer to the source’s question on why Sahara Reporters were peddling this story. One Nigerian on Twitter wrote in response to the Sahara tweet:
You would be more useful to Nigeria if you focused more on weighty matters like the North East famine, not pro-Bourdillon gossip. https://t.co/RrUdh0ippt

Bourdillon Close is the residence of All Progressives Congress (APC) baron Bola Tinubu, who is still smarting from the fact that he lost control of the Senate through an alliance between the Senate President Bukola Saraki and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which led to Ekweremadu, a PDP senator, ending up as Saraki’s deputy in an APC-controlled Senate.
